Meet Angela

Angela Selseth, L.Ac., is committed to making Chinese Medicine accessible to people of all walks of life.

She has a strong belief that more people can make changes in their health that will relieve their pain, reduce their stress and improve the quality of their day to day life using this form of holistic medicine. She works to demystify East-meets-West medicine using a straight forward, practical approach.

True healing can happen when there is a collaboration between the health care provider and the patient, and while there isn’t any magic cure, what does work, consistently and amazingly well, is taking responsibility for your health and wellness by making incremental changes that are drug-free, side effect free and health enhancing.

Often there are factors that negatively effect patient’s health that they may not be fully aware of, such as unexpressed emotions, too much stress, or other unhealthy habits. Angela’s goal is to be your consistent ally on your path to discovering wellness, to help you be the healthiest, happiest version of yourself that you can be.

Angela earned her Bachelors degree in Cultural Anthropology and Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and then worked as a manager in a natural foods co-op before moving to Portland. There she learned not only about the importance of healthful organic foods but about working as part of a collective. She took that experience with her to her work in Portland at Sisters of The Road Café, which solidified her belief in the importance of working with people in community, not charity. This philosophy shaped her beliefs about health and helping people to make positive changes in their lives. All of the medical advice and treatments in the world can’t take the place of making healthy lifestyle choices and sticking to them. She saw first hand how the tools of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine eased patients stress and dis-ease and empowered them to make those positive changes at a treatment center that helped patients recovering from addictions. Seeing patients recovering from that level of chaos in their lives using this non-traditional medicine inspired her to enroll at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine to earn her Masters Degree.

After earning her degree she worked closely for years with Chiropractic Doctors treating patients suffering after injuries from car accidents, and now is thrilled to have come full circle to work in her own community at the Kenton Family Wellness Center; a vibrant collective of alternative medicine practitioners in the heart of the Kenton neighborhood in North Portland. What’s most exciting about her work is seeing her patients get better and begin living their lives again, especially when other treatments haven’t worked.

Angela’s down to earth, non-judgmental approach to healing has helped many patients take back control of their lives again.

“I came to Angela for treatment after ending a long term relationship which left me feeling incredibly sad and struggling to get through my day to day life. After my first treatment I felt like I had gotten exactly what I needed, like a weight had been lifted. The treatment couldn’t change my situation, but it helped immensely in my ability to deal with it”

– A.J., Community Acupuncture Patient

“My quality of life has improved with acupuncture treatments. I was very skeptical and wary of the needles, but the treatments are actually relaxing. I have had chronic shoulder and neck pain from many injuries over the years, and now with regular treatments, it’s not a struggle to get out of bed and get moving in the morning. It’s been the first step to inspire me to really take charge of my health. I recommend Angela to everyone dealing with chronic pain.”

So if you are suffering with health issues like chronic pain (from old injuries or medically diagnosed conditions such as Fibromyalgia or Diabetic neuropathy), chronic weight or food issues (yo-yo dieting or digestive problems), low energy and immunity, chronic stress, headaches or migraines, maybe it’s time to try a different approach. Chinese Medicine often excels where conventional therapies haven’t. It really is possible for you to break the cycle of chronic pain and fatigue, live your life fully at a healthy and comfortable weight, and remove the damaging effects of stress to feel happier and full of energy. That’s what optimal health is. The first step is to take the time for yourself, come in, and find out how great you can feel.
